The Sherlock fandom is a bit…dramatic. We’re not puzzle solvers, WE’RE DRAMA QUEENS! We’re very strongly opinionated, which can be both a curse and a blessing. See, to me it isn’t a two sided fandom. A lot of people think, ‘oh there’s the haters and the peacekeepers’. But there’s so many different things all happening at once in this fandom, that tend to clash with one another, hence the ‘drama queen’ title I put on it. Of course this DOES NOT apply to everyone! I’m not shoving off people into a little sub category because that would be wrong, but from a general perspective, we like to create something that is larger than it actually is. We like to rebut on people’s opinions, sometimes subtly, other times…aggressively.
There’s been some recent things (that I won’t mention but dear lord you probably know what they are) that made me slightly ashamed to be in this fandom. Some of you know, I will advocate and stand up for anyone who receives hate. I will not tolerate that for one second. And I find, like I said earlier, when those who have very strong opinions and theories and views on characters, things can get rowdy and horrific. I know people in the fandom who have been bullied off of this website because there were a select few who disagreed with her.
I think that’s far more than enough of the negatives. This fandom is my family. And as we all surely know, families have their ups and downs. There will always be small fights happening, but when we’re all gathered around the hypothetical dinner table (which in this case, is when we’re watching Sherlock) there’s laughter, cheering and we are finally at peace with each other and it’s beautiful. When something works in this fandom, it works. This fandom, as crazy and dramatic as it is, I bloody love it. I love the art, the theories, the fanfictions, we are working together to create something massively beautiful, and I think that’s pretty bloody exciting.
Basically what I’m trying to say is we are a slightly dysfunctional family of drama queens and I love each and every one of you..except for the anon haters, you guys can show yourselves out. But remember, fandom, we all have opinions, and as much as we like to be right and have the only say in the matter, there are others who will disagree with you, and we have to respect that and appreciate that because that is what helps our fandom grow. We are a clever lot, if I can say so without sounding in any way narcissistic, and if we all just worked together instead of against one another, we can extend the peace from the ‘dinner table’ and into this frankly, painfully long hiatus. I love you guys so much, and I think the Sherlock fandom is marvellous and beautiful in it’s own, strange way that only we could understand.
